Education Specialists to provide direct instruction to and coordinate services for students with exceptional needs enrolled in Resource Specialist Programs and Special Day Class Program at assigned site(s). An Education Specialist also serves as a member of the Individual Education Program team for those children who have needs requiring the resource specialist’s particular specialty and may serve for those students for whom he/she has performed and assessment/diagnostic function at other times as appropriate.

Job duties:
Assess, plan, organize, and participate in rehabilitative programs that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and decrease or prevent deformity of patients suffering from disease or injury. Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating data to identify problems and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention. Plan, prepare and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients. Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient’s chart or enter information into the computer. Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for evaluation. Administer manual exercises, massage, or traction to help relieve pain, increase patient strength, or decrease or prevent deformity or crippling, evaluate effects of treatment at various stages, and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit. Test and measure patient’s strength, motor development function, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency and record data. Instruct the patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home. Confer with the patient, medical practitioners, and appropriate others to plan, implement, and assess the intervention program. Review physician’s referral and patient’s medical records to help determine; diagnosis and physical therapy treatment required in schools, pediatric clinics, day rehabilitation centers, and group homes.

REQUIREMENTS: Master’s/Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy or Physiology or related field or its foreign equivalent plus 5 years of progressive experience in the related field accepted. California license in physical therapy is required. Travel required to Client sites throughout California.

Job duties: Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans. Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students. Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student. Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities. Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one. Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress. Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals. Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators. Supervise and mentor teacher assistants who work with students with disabilities. Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and after graduation.

Requirements: Permanent credential to perform Special Education Teacher Services from California Board Commission on Teacher credentialing required. Bachelor’s degree in special education and 3 years of experience as a special education teacher required.
